Dark Future: The Demon Download Cycle

Right-o my chums on the interwebs I've made this post dew to the fact that since starting up the Dark Future FB Group the question of the novels have popped up a few times.

Now there were a number of books and reprintings, so lets start of with the series Demon Download Cycle:

Demon Download by Jack Yeovil, published by Boxtree Books (1990); republished by Black Flame (2005)

Krokodil Tears by Jack Yeovil, published by Games Workshop (1990); published by Boxtree Books (1991); republished by Black Flame (2006)

Comeback Tour by Jack Yeovil, published by Boxtree Books (1991); republished by Black Flame (2007)

Route 666 by Jack Yeovil, published by Boxtree Books (1993); republished by Black Flame (2006)

The narrative of the four published books has a chronology that is not consistent with either the publication order or the numbering that appears on the books themselves.

The books were published in this order:

Demon Download (1990)
Krokodil Tears (1990)
Comeback Tour (1991)
Route 666 (1993)

They are numbered in this order:

Demon Download
Route 666
Krokodil Tears
Comeback Tour

The internal chronology of the novels is in this order:

Route 666
Krokodil Tears
Demon Download
Comeback Tour

The Anthology version
Now to further add confusion Route 666 also has 2 versions an anthology and also novel (An expansion of the short story Route 666 published in the anthology Route 666) . Only the novel was reprinted by Boxtree and then Black Flame.

Black Flame reprints:

In 2005 the Dark Future setting was brought back as a series of novels published by Games Workshop's fiction imprint Black Flame. They updated the setting to 2021, and released several new titles. However, while several pop-culture references were updated in the books, some lines retain their original wording, and now seem out of place (such as when character Jazzbeaux thinks of the millennium coming around in five years' time in 'Route 666').

I'll cover the other stand alone books the next time so for those interested stay tuned. same bat-time & same bat-channel :)
