Epic Scenery Done!

Well ok.... maybe not, I still have an order from Daemonscape yet to arrive containing ruins/rubble, more Orky shacks and a couple of large Warehouses. But I'm not sure if they will even get here before BOYL let along painted in time for my Epic games (I'm both running a few on the Saturday and playing in a large one on the Sunday)

Quite happy with how they turned out and I'm glad I based them on plastic sheeting for ease of use even if it was annoying and I ended up getting sand everywhere (Including on the Cat)

My Ork settlement, I will add to it (In fact that's the order I'm waiting for) a fecking bugger to paint as it's all fiddly bits and odds and sods.

Challenge Week: Heraldry - The Results

So the 8th Challenge comes to an end, sadly even with a extra day the number of entries were rather low. Not to be dishearten as it's a busy time with BOYL being a short number of days away.

The entries:

By Warlord Paul from The Black Hole

6mm Cult of the Children 50% done!

So with BOYL14 only 9 days away I still find myself with alot of painting to finish including 2 Epic armies and Scenery.

Anyway the Cult is now 50% or more finished, and while I love them they are a feking chore to paint unlike the Orks which so much faster.

Chico's Top Ten Miniatures: Part 1

Image stolen from axiom

Now I'm jumping on the Top 10 miniature Blog post band wagon started by Magpie and Old Lead. Which he himself ''borrowed'' from a FB post :D

It's not really a surpise that while I love old Citadel a large % of my list will be Alternative Companies.

In no real order:

Oldhammer Goblin
The Oldhammer Goblin by the master Himself, this will be pride of my Greenskins

Hasslefree Kalee
Whats not to love about this figure? Boobs and Malal...Oh dear sticky undies!

Large package.. once again not my balls :P

Rather short and quick post this...

A large box turned up on my door today, wanna see what was in it?

Monday, 21 July 2014

Supporting the little guys.. No not my balls..

Say 'Ello to my little friends..

Oldhammer eh? It accepts all sorts of weridos (Yes I'm looking at you!) and either directly involved or in sideline of the subconscious it has helped to either grow or inspire a number of of small miniature companies.

A number has failed like my own part-owner company Affinity Miniatures, BUT! A number has grown and become wonderful things.

So this post is all about promoting 2 of the best:

First up is Oakbound Miniatures owned and run by a rather nice member of the Oldhammer Community.

Oakbound Games strives to revive the golden (umm, leaden!) era of roleplaying miniatures with a range of quirky and fun figures in 28mm scale for The Woods, Factious Waste and any other system you care to use. Hark back to those heady (umm, leady!) days where the experience and the story were what counted and the rules were there to serve the fluff.

Oakbound Miniatures are hand-sculpted and cast in lead pewter in the UK. We keep a small quantity of miniatures in stock and can usually dispatch out of stock items within six weeks of order. If you need your miniatures sooner please contact us to check availability and we will do our best to make sure you get your order as quickly as possible. Unless otherwise stated, all miniatures are supplied without weaponry, which is available separately. MDF hexagonal bases are included for figures from The Woods. We plan to issue a range of accessories for these figures in the near future but the miniatures are designed to fit with items by most 28-32mm manufacturers. If you are resident outside of the UK please contact us for shipping costs before buying.

Right It's time again for another Chico Challenge Week™, number 8! The last before BOYL14.

You may have remembered the prize for the last Challenge was to pick a theme. Well young Simon ''Double' D from Picturesque Ruins won and happened to choose Heraldry (Banners, Tabards, Standards, Shields ect)

Simon is also donating a prize this month:

Choice of either F9 Feudal from 1985 or a Highlander from 1987

Heartbreaker Hobbies & Games

So a discussion popped up on the Oldhammer Facebook Group about love for other companies and as OoaB readers known I love my old lead alternatives and have done a few articles about other companies.

Seen here:

Ral Partha Europe
Grenadier Models UK
Asgard Miniatures

And the subject changed to how now RPE sell some of the Kev Adams Heartbreaker range and it got me thinking.. Do I need a Orc army and yet another project? Well short answer is Yes, long answer is Hell Yes!

Dead Man's Hand: The James-Younger Gang, Cole & Jim Younger

The progress continues on the DHM, these will be the last for the moment as I need to finished off my Epic and Judge Dredd for BOYL14. I'm tempted to get my Cult of the Children done for it too but we'll see.

Jim & Cole Younger
Thomas Coleman "Cole" Younger (January 15, 1844 – March 21, 1916) was an American Confederate Bushwacker during the American Civil War and later a leader with the James-Younger gang. He was the eldest brother of Jim, John and Bob Younger.

During the American Civil War, savage guerrilla warfare wracked Missouri. Younger fought as a guerrilla under William Clarke Quantrill. The fighting in Missouri during the Civil War was largely between pro-Union and pro-Confederate Missourians, though the bushwhackers held special hatred for the Union troops from Kansas who frequently crossed the border and earned a reputation for ruthlessness. Younger joined the Confederate guerrilla leader Quantrill in a raid on August 21, 1863, taking part in the killing of some 200 men and boys at Lawrence, Kansas, which the guerrillas looted and burned.

Dead Man's Hand: The James-Younger Gang, Frank and Jesse James

Just a quick Blog spot about the start of my second of 4 of my DMH gangs, The James-Younger Gang.

The gang was centred in the state of Missouri. Membership fluctuated from robbery to robbery, as the outlaws' raids were usually separated by many months. At various times, it included the Younger brothers (Cole, Jim, John, and Bob), the James brothers (the notorious Jesse James and his brother Frank), Clell Miller, Arthur McCoy, Charlie Pitts, John Jarrette (who was married to Cole's sister Josie), Bill Chadwell (alias Bill Stiles), and Matthew "Ace" Nelson. Contrary to frequent reports, the James brothers and Younger brothers were not related, at least not by blood.

Starting in 1879, after the demise of the James–Younger Gang, the James brothers committed further crimes with Clell Miller's brother Ed and the Ford brothers.

Challenge Week: Alternative Companies - The Results

So ends the 7th Chico Challenge Week™ and as you well know it was Alternative Companies (Anything non-GW).

Once again we have had some wonderful entries ranging far and wide throughout companies and ranges, making choosing the overall winner very hard as the standard was rather high. Remember it's just isn't about painting but also effort made and figure chosen, so why not take part next time?

So the Entries:

Metal Magic Spacelords Adventurer by Axiom

Kyromek Hellions by Dustin M. Haberstumpf
Dixon Samurai Archer by Richard ''Third'' Legg

GLOGG: Greater London Gits & Gamers Mk2?

So It's been awhile since I promoted GLOGG in any real way but it seems as the Oldhammer movement is growing it might be worth giving it another crack.

The problem I found when starting this well over a year ago is that South Herts and surrounding areas were/is a Oldhammer black spot.

Having said that it wasn't all bad with 2 GLOGG games being run and documented:

The Disturbed Slumber Fluff
The Disturbed Slumber Part 1
The Disturbed Slumber Part 2
Battle of Big Knot Pit
