SAGA: Revenants Pt1 ''When Hell is full, the dead shall walk the Earth''

Last few days I've spent painting up Revenants... well Zombies to you uneducated fellows. Heh it's a good excuse to wack blood effect paint everywhere and well.. Zombies are cool heh

I have to say first and foremost that some of the sculpts are rather hit and miss with odd details, it reminds me of Bob Olley's work where sometimes you just can't quite tell what a bit of detail is, is it a cloth, skin flap, ribs or something else.

What is scary though is that just 6 zombies makes half a point in SAGA and with 6 points to paint I've a very look way to go. I'm in no rush though so I'll take my time and plan to get a few done each week while finishing up my Star Wars and Necromunda projects.

Brains.. Brains... Ewww no thanks.. Bacon!.. Bacon!

  1. Wonderful stuff Chico, and I especially like the eerie blue eyes you've given them. Great models made even better by your 'buckets of blood' too... Six down, just how many to go ;-)

    1. Thanks mate, if I cheat and use Grave Pits I only have to paint 51 in total or of I leave them out I'll need to paint 71 heh... Think I might go nuts if I went for those extra 20 :(

  2. Yes but if you don't paint the extra, you can only convert the grave pits once you've lost a unit. I think a good strategy for the Revenants is to move the markers across the battlefield and then convert them behind enemy lines. So get painting! ;-)

    1. Aye but 6 points of levy on the field at once I don't think that manageable and that way lays madness. Plus I'd need to buy 24 more Zombies that way, don't think the budget will go to 24 more GB ones at almost £40, might have to be Mantic plastics.. ugh!

  3. They look great - the one with the axe reminds me of the barrow wights from the old Citadel Lord of the Rings range. I hope you write up a battle report for Revenant... I'd love to know how it plays.

    1. Aye you are right, he does have a Barrow Wight feel to him. No doubt when I play them I'll lose like 90% of my SAGA games... I love SAGA but I just suck at it hehe.

    2. It's a very tricky game. I'm not entirely sure (??) it's balanced. I've played a couple times with Vikings vs. Normans, and each time the Vikings get their asses handed to them with a side of Brie.

    3. Normans I've found work with only 1 list in mind, Maxed out Cav and Crossbows. Vikings struggle against Cav and Crossbows more then most and tend to get eaten so I can see why you have that problem. The way to kill Normans though is too just take 2 points of missile armed levy and bunker down and leave the Berserker at home. Of course this all works in theory but If I'd still try it I'd lose hehe

  4. I liked the look of these when the ad came out showcasing them, but it's sad to hear their sculpts aren't so hot once in hand. :(

Mantic zombies mix well with their ghoul sprues to make lots more differing poses in case you didn't know.

I like how you've painted these. Your pale skin contrasts well with the dark red and greys.

    1. Thankies, It's only 3 out of the 24 variants that look a bit dodgy. Aye the Mantic Zombies are designed by the same person as scultped these Mr Bob Naismith of the good Ol' Oldhammer fame :)
