Chico's Last Painted Figure of 2015

Chico's Last Painted Figure of 2015

And it ain't even Oldhammer...

Shock horror eh?

Well not so much I guess as on OoaB I've always gone and posted any random figure I painted and has since grown to include many wonderful and varied posts.

So at the end of the day who cares if it ain't Oldhammer?

Wanna see it?

Happy Hoildays!

A tad late but it's been Chaos (And not the good Slaaneshi kind either) in the Chico Kingdom.

But to all my friends, followers & readers of OoaB I'd like to wish you a happy holiday.

Anyway I'll leave you this image for you daily ''Awwww'' when I tried to do some painting yesterday:

Abyssal Dwarfs - Ewal Dvergar ''Iron-caster''

So as I mentioned in the last post (HERE) I was rather taken with doing a Abyssal Dwarf force for Kings of War.

I wanted to go completely out of my comfort zone with the paint scheme and basing so I needed a test figure.

I have more Chaos Dwarves/Evil Dwarves/Ewal Dvergar then I'd ever need so it was just a matter of choosing one (A undercoated one preferred heh) and get cracking.

But before I could get painting I also wanted to try out a Cork Lava basing scheme, so having finished  that (After a try or 2 and a tad little bit of swearing) I got going on a Ewal Dvergar.

KoW - Abyssal Dwarfs review

Yes it's another Mantic/KoW post this time checking out the Abyssal Dwarf range (Aka Khaos Dwarfs).

Now before we start I should make clear that I'm a Chaos/Evil Dwarf fan and tend to own many companies versions including a very sizable WhFB3 CD army and Mr Clam's Ewal Dvergar as a Mordheim Warband.

But I feel it's time to invest in some Mantic Abyssal Dwarfs, yes under no sense can be classed as Oldhammer but feck it lives too short to worry about such nonsense (Not that I do of course).

Ral Partha Ghost Dragon

Just a quick post,

But well it seems that I've got my painting habit back and managed to get a few hours painting over the last few days.

As you remember I happen to win a Ral Partha Ghost Dragon (More info HERE) and since my KoW Varangur army likes to bind monsters dead or alive to their forces it would seem rude not to include it eh?

He's a big beastie as you can see with a Hasslefree figure for scale.

Painting was interesting as I've never painted a Ghost/Ethereal before so kinda winged it  but here's what I did:

Black Undercoat
Army Painter Hydra Turquoise
Drybrush VGC White Primer
2-3 coats of super thinned down Hydra Turquoise

Would I change anything if I painted it again, Hmmm I'd maybe start with a White Undercoat (Never ever have a used a White undercoat though so maybe not).

Well thanks for looking and now I'm off to work!

Ugh!

Ral Partha Zombie Dragon

Painting time is once again happening, but nowhere near the time I had before.

Yesterday night I had a spare 2 hours and a pre-based and sprayed Zombie Dragon waiting for some love to join my Kings of War Varangur force.

I didn't want to go for the classic rotten look as I wanted it to retain it's colour from life, in this case a red fire Dragon.

A Rather Nice Surprise

So today after getting back in from a long and tiring morning/afternoon in the cold and wet and open my front door to a large package (No my zip wasn't open ;) ).

I had to double take as at my feet was a old GW Citadel Mail Order box.

Puzzled..

I looked further..

Upon inspection it had come all the way from the states..

Thinking I was loosing my mind as I had no trades coming from there and I took the plunge and opened it..

Warmaster Orc Reinforcements

Well there's been a real lack of Blogs here ain't there?

Well that's all down to work and a increased workload (Still I've had a pay raise already which helps) but I haven't been idle on the hobby front with the postman still bringing me little packages of goodness and gaming once a week.

I've also had some painting time which I've been building up a Kings of War Varangur (Chaos for those in the WhFB frame of mind) force from Grenadier and Ral Partha figures.

But more about those soon :)

Anyway my Warmaster Orc force has gained some reinforcements from no less then 3 separate companies.

Terminator Genisys: Resistance Pt.1

So as a break from my larger projects and a aim to keep my hobby costs down I've been busy repainting up my Grenadier & Copplestone Casting figures (As I have 30 odd not doing much) to use as my Resistance for Terminator Genisys.

Supreme Littleness Designs Review

As readers will know I'm enjoying a adventure into 10mm wargaming or to be more precise - Warmaster.

Now I'm still very much building up my first army but my interests tend to wander, so to stop them wandering to far I've started working on some scenery to break up the layers of green.

Now while on my hunt though the interweb for suitable bits I came across Supreme Littleness Designs.

Then I was hit by this little beauty:

Yup a 10mm scale Tower of Orthanc, Sauraman's tower to those not into LotR

Warmaster Battle Report: Orcs of the White Hand Vs Dwarves of the Mountains

Together, my lord Sauron, we shall rule this Middle-earth. The old world will burn in the fires of industry.
Forests will fall. A new order will rise. We will drive the machine of war with the sword and the spear and the iron fist of the Orc.

So last night as a rather busy Watford Wargaming Federation I had my first game of Warmaster ever!

My long suffering opponent was also playing his first game and came armed with little Dwarven Gits.

Anyway here's some pictures of our game.

For Sale: Chaos Dwarves Batch 1

Ok boys and girls it's time for a Chico Sales post.

Money is tight and many of my projects are stalling because of it, so It's time to let some of the older loved but unused bits go to fund current ones/pay the bills to allow me to get a few extra toys.

I'm starting with batching up my Chaos Dwarves and selling them on.

This is Batch 1.

All CD's are £5 ea, UK based but can post Worldwide.

Postage extra but if buying a few I can knock a little bit of the price.

If interested you can email me at Chico 4 Life AT Gmail DOT Com or message me (Chico Danks) on Facebook (Leave a message on this post alerting me to the email/pm though).

The end reasult will be a 4 way Battle Royal at Bring Out Your Lead 2016.

Orctober 2015 Pt.3 - Looks like meat's back on the menu boys!

As promised a update of my Warmaster LotR Orc army, it's slow going but I'm rather enjoying seeing it build up.

Plus as I have so many units I can jump from one to another if a unit get boring or the colour starts to hurt my wee eyes, so I'm much further along then the finished picture look as I have 4/5 WIP units as well :)

Space Cadets: Away Mission Review

Long before the threat of the Nemesis, before the perils of warp drive or the founding of our own Space Academy, humanity experienced a Golden Age of space exploration. The mineral riches of the thriving Moon colony inspired legions of hearty Earth citizens to seek their fortunes in space. Humble rockets probed the farthest reaches of the solar system in an eager quest for resources, and brave colonists forged homes wherever they could survive. Pioneer life was hard, but the men and women who worked and raised their families on those planets and asteroids had much to be proud of.

Then the rumours began — whispered tales of frontier abductions and sightings of mysterious creatures. By the time the secret invasion was exposed, the aliens were everywhere. Families had been stolen away by slavers from the stars, and the peace-loving survivors had no choice but to arm themselves and fight. Fight to stop the alien attacks! Fight to free the helpless abductees! Fight to throw the aggressors back into space and end forever their power to threaten humanity!

Thus was born the Rocket Patrol – an organization of brave and hearty women and men dedicated to defending humanity and taking the fight to the alien menace from the stars.

Arhhh yes a lack of Blog posts of late I know, work and all that blah blah...

But I did get to game a few games of Space Cadets: Away Missions which were quite enjoyable.

It's published by Stronghold Games but not being a massive Boardgame Geek means rather little to me I'm afraid.

Orctober 2015 Pt.2 - The Union of the Two Towers

The world is changing. Who now has the strength to stand against the armies of Isengard and Mordor?

To stand against the might of Sauron and Saruman and the union of the two towers?
Together, Lord Sauron, we shall rule this Middle-Earth. The old world will burn in the fires of industry.

The forests will fall. A new order will rise. We will drive the machinery of war with the sword and the spear and the iron fist of the Orc.

We have only to remove those who oppose us.

So dispite a bone crushing week of work and the joy of a new (Evil) furball I've made good progress on my Warmaster LotR themed Orc army.

Orctober 2015 Pt.1 - Mordor Marches!

Now as I'm sure we all know Erny from the self titled Erny's Place runs the Oldhammer version of Orctober every year.

Now this year I was going to sit it out as I'm quite burned out on Greenskins as I'm doing a Hobgoblin force for Tale of 4 Oldhammer Gamers & my Mordheim Orc Royal Court.

But as my treat for starting my new job I ordered some 10mm Orcs from Copplestone Castings and they turned up less then 24 hours after ordering woot!

Now I only done a small order but enough to get started on for the time being.

Evil Space Dorfs you say?

What!?

Yes ok it's been a little while since the last Evil Dorf update, but that sneaky chap Geoff over at Oakbound Studios (Notice the name change!) has been pushing forward despite being a rather busy chap with his new 32mm Legends of British Steampunk range and other bits!.

Really go check them out, while not Oldhammer are rather purdy indeed.

Now those which follow Oakbound may have spotted a picture on the Oakbound FB Group (Go join it you tart!)

Those which haven't well here it is!

Distractions.. Bloody Distractions.

I've kind of been distracted of late when it's come to painting/Wargaming/Bloging which is a kind of a shame, but in it's way a little break as helped me refocus on what projects I want to finish or even start (Keep reading) and what I can put aside or sell on.

So what's the plan Bananaman!

Well.. I'm going to try my hand at um.. 10mm!

My copy of Warmaster from Ebay for £3

Christmas in September?!?

Wait!!

What!?!

Ok?

Yeah it seems it comes around earlier every year, the shops start getting in the crap and the websites start springing up to annoy us with endless cheer (Read: More tat).

But sometimes..

Just sometimes..

You spot something that makes ya smile.

Tale of 4 Oldhammer Gamers - Pt.5 - Hobgoblin Rōnin on Temple Lion

So how are we doing today my fine readers of OoaB!

Well England lost their Rubgy game last night.. silly buggers!

But even that news hasn't dampened out my shine today as tomorrow I start my new job (I was at current a carer for my Wife, but she is back working herself now) so I'm back into the workforce and earning a couple of quid a month.

Now that might mean a reduced post output from me while I get used to working again but I don't forsee it being too bad to keep the painting and hobby running at full force.

Anyway on a related note this post is a tad early being next months To4G entry but I got it finished while I knew I had the time spare.

So I bring forth!!

Hobgoblin Rōnin on Temple Lion

'Ello my OoaB Readers!

Enjoying the Rugby World Cup?

I am!

Anyway in the last post I was asked to do a shot of all the finished Mordheim scenery together so far, so off I trucked to my local gaming Club tonight and took a few shots.

Now as you can see, there's not much yet but it's slowly building up.

Chico Does Mordheim: Pt.12 Ruined Guardhouse & Small Ruin

So progress continues of the building of Chicoheim despite a large part of my time being on my To4OG Hobgoblins and watching the Rugby World Cup (My only sporting passion).

2 more ruins have been finished a Guardhouse and a small ruined building.

''Da Court'' is the name of my Orc Warband which are based on a Royal Court.

Tale of 4 Oldhammer Gamers - Pt.4 - Cavalcade Greenskins

So following on from the last To4OG post about Tales of the Dragon Kings range by Blackhat I kept looking for more alternatives supplement my Citadel Hobgoblins.

And I came upon Cavalcade Wargames Armies of the East owned and run by Forlorn Hope Games which long time readers of OoaB should know that I'm a massive fan off mostly because they stock the wonderful Ex-Grenadier range.

So what goodies do they have to offer?
