Tale of 4 Oldhammer Gamers - Pt.7 - Goblins

So as you may or may not know (If you are living under a rock) that myself, Steve, Paul & Ringo.. sorry James are all taking part in the Tale of 4 Oldhammer Gamers.

Now I been lax dew to work and personal life kicking me in the balls and taking away my painting time.

Anyway this month I have semi-cheated and repainted a Goblin unit, each Goblin had his skin repainted to look less scruffy and more in keeping with my Hobgoblins.

Now this may sound easy but on a unit this size it took alot of man hours.

Tale of 4 Oldhammer Gamers - Pt.6 - Hobgoblin Army

'Ello my sexy and lovable readers of OoaB!

To refresh your memory the 4 of us (James from Realm of Chaos 80's, Steve from Eldritch Epistles & The Warlord named as Paul from The Blackhole) are all taking part in a Oldhammer version of the iconic Tales of 4 Gamers.

The end reasult will be a 4 way Battle Royal at Bring Out Your Lead 2016.

This is now my 3 months instalment (I'm working one month ahead of everyone else at current).

So this is my complete force so far around 300-350 points (Yup Hobbos are cheap).

Tale of 4 Oldhammer Gamers - Pt.5 - Hobgoblin Rōnin on Temple Lion

So how are we doing today my fine readers of OoaB!

Well England lost their Rubgy game last night.. silly buggers!

But even that news hasn't dampened out my shine today as tomorrow I start my new job (I was at current a carer for my Wife, but she is back working herself now) so I'm back into the workforce and earning a couple of quid a month.

Now that might mean a reduced post output from me while I get used to working again but I don't forsee it being too bad to keep the painting and hobby running at full force.

Anyway on a related note this post is a tad early being next months To4G entry but I got it finished while I knew I had the time spare.

So I bring forth!!

Tale of 4 Oldhammer Gamers - Pt.4 - Cavalcade Greenskins

So following on from the last To4OG post about Tales of the Dragon Kings range by Blackhat I kept looking for more alternatives supplement my Citadel Hobgoblins.

And I came upon Cavalcade Wargames Armies of the East owned and run by Forlorn Hope Games which long time readers of OoaB should know that I'm a massive fan off mostly because they stock the wonderful Ex-Grenadier range.

So what goodies do they have to offer?

Tale of 4 Oldhammer Gamers - Pt.3 - Tales of the Dragon Kings

So what's all this about I hear you proclaim!?!

Well as we all know by now I'm taking part in the Tale of 4 Oldhammer Gamers and I'm building up a Hobgoblin force (Or you should do, or why would you be hear).

Now do to the force being a Allied List they never had many options and they are rather a pain to get from Ebay and various trade sites/forums/pages.

So I started looking elsewhere for options and after seeing this POST by the Oldhammer favourite Goblin Lee about a Chaos Nippon force which uses Black Hat Miniatures Tales of the Dragon Kings range and thought with the odd weapon swap or head chop they'll add some flavour quite nicely.

Tale of 4 Oldhammer Gamers - Pt.2 The first 100pts

Well as you no doubt know from this POST that myself along with James, Paul & Steve are doing the Tale of 4 Oldhammer Gamers.

For my force I went with Hobgoblins, sadly the list in Warhammer Armies happens to just be a allied list so I have 6 options total to choose from (General, Battle Standard, Shaman, Hobgoblins, Elite Hobgoblins and Hobhounds).

Now feck that for limited choice, even at 1000pts that'll be a dull ol' force to say the least.

So I need to expand my options, so flicking though the 3rd Ed rulebook (After asking where the rules were from a fellow To4G) I saw the rules and points cost for the Rocket Launcher (50pts) so adding the cost of 3 Hobgoblin crew it comes to 65pts..

Bargain!

Tale of 4 Oldhammer Gamers - Pt.1

So what's all this then?

Well,

Just before this years BOYL a discussion took place between a few of us on the Ol' Bookface that we should do a Tale of 4 Oldhammer Gamers and with a set goal of gaming at the end of it in mind.

Those taking part along with myself are:

James author of Realm of Chaos 80's
Steve author of Eldritch Epistles
Paul author of The Black Hole

So with that sorted (Well almost Paul has yet to confirm he's still up for it) we came up with the idea of making a 1000pts WhFB3 force to have a 4-way game with at BOYL16.

My first idea was to do a Nippon and a quick look in my lead mountain turned up a dozen or so figures I could get cracking on..

Then I saw the box labelled ''Hobgoblins''

So I opened it..

Outcast Greenskins: More Bastards!

Taking a week out from my massed SAGA whoring (Wait till you see my new Scenery for SAGA, think Stonehenge).

Now as readers of OoaB know I have a long ongoing Outcast/Chaos Greenskin force being painted up. My Force is going to break down into 3 Parts:

Chaos/Outcast Goblins W/ Randoms (Giant, Orc Warmacines, Orclings)
Khornate Half Orc Warband
Corrupted Hobgoblin Warband

Each of these 3 parts will join together for large games but each will have it's own theme and flavour.

The BOYL15 Outcast Greenskin Project

What?? We haven't even had BOYL14 and you are thinking bout next years??? Yep! I have a plan and a slow burn project in mind that I've always wanted to do, Outcast Chaos infused Greenies led by Hobgoblins! What's not to like.

This has been in the back of my mind for a little while now, when I did the 3 background posts (Linked below) the craving grew.

The Dark Lands

To carry on my Hobgoblin themed fluff posts here's another one for you all to enjoy:

It is a stark and cheerless place where nature has rent the ground and burst the mountains apart. Amongst the peaks volcanoes spew black smoke into the filthy sky. In the plains the stench of tar pits and oil pools hangs heavily in the air. Steaming lava from beneath the earth's crust covers the ash wastes with a blanket of bubbling magma. It is bordered by both sides by the World's Edge Mountain, and the empire of the Dwarves , and the Mountains of Mourn, of the Ogre Kingdom. "Almost nothing can grow in the Dark Lands. The dim light and choking air combine to ensure that the land remains devoid of vegetation, except for a few straggly black thorns. The volcanoes and gaping pits bring up all kinds of minerals and gems from beneath the earth: gold and silver, iron and copper, diamonds and sapphires, as well as sulphur, oil and tar. It is a land rich in the materials that Dwarves especially covet."

At the centre of the empire lies the great Ziggurat of Zharr-Naggrund, the obsidian capital of the chaos dwarfs , and home to the great temple of Hashut. Much of the Dark Lands is a stark place where nature has rent the ground and burst the mountains apart. Amongst the peaks volcanoes spew black smoke into the sky. In the plains the stench of tar pits and oil pools hangs heavily in the air. Steaming lava from beneath the earth's crust covers the ash wastes with a blanket of bubbling magma. As a result it is almost impossible for anything to grow in these harsh and unforgiving conditions, the dim light and polluted air ensure that nothing except for a few thin black thorns can thrive there. The volcanoes and pits bring up all sorts of minerals and gems as well as sulphur, oil and tar - things that the Chaos Dwarves long for above anything else. The south coast of the Dark Lands is covered in thick forest, the exception of the previous rule, as are the foothills of the World's Edge Mountains and the Mountains of Mourn.

Hobgobla-Khan, Terror of the Steppes

From http://animositycampaigns.com/

As the sneering honor guard of Hobgoblins led him at spear point through the camp, Cathayan Ambassador Eg-Shen and his aide De-Ling could only marvel at the army around him. As far as he could clearly see and gathering into muddled shadows even further from his vision was the army of Hobgobla-Khan. Numbering in the hundreds of thousands, the Hobgoblin encampment covered several square miles of the Western Plains.

All around Shen was the pungent odor of Hobgoblin and wolf, the two races living in mutual harmony. Here and there tooth and clawed battles broke out between gathered wolves, fighting for bones, pups or mating privileges. Beyond the fighting lupines were the Hobgoblins themselves. From the depths of hooded cloaks or sheltered yurts, the Hobgoblins paused as the Ambassador walked past, glaring at him with both hatred and a morbid sense of menace. The needle sharp teeth in their heads were clearly visible as they grinned long and menacingly at the Cathayan visitor. Eg-Shen shook inwardly, being surrounded by the army of unscrupulous monsters and their unclean beasts. Huge bonfires lit up the afternoon sky as the small army of camp cooks set about feeding the horde of monsters. As was the case of late, rations were getting smaller and the menu far less varied. As the famine form the south threatened the human populace of Cathay, so too had famine and disease come to the army of Hobgobla-Khan. It came as no surprise to Shen when he saw a small Hobgoblin child wander too close to a pack of starving wolves that the beasts tore into the greenskin child, ripping out its throat before it could even call for help, then dragging the corpse back into the shadows of the tent city to be devoured. The sight of such carnage was hardly something new to the jaded ambassador to the Hobgoblin nations, but Shen was still shocked to see that none of the nearby Hobgoblins gave the loss a second glance, instead worrying about their own rations while keeping a wary eye on their mates!

Hobgoblin Background

They are found living on the Eastern Steppes of the Warhammer world where they are ruled over by the Khans, all of whom answer to the Hobgobla-khan, the greatest of the hobgoblin warlords.

They are considered so untrustworthy and underhanded by the other Orcs and goblin races that they refuse to have dealings with them. However, they are employed by the Chaos Dwarfs as their slave drivers organizing other goblin slaves. The reason for the close relationship with the Chaos Dwarf dates back to the Black Orc revolt when the Hobgoblins initially marched with their larger cousins but soon betrayed them to the Chaos Dwarves and so gained their trust.
